Standard 1.1 - Creating
"Candidates demonstrate the ability to create instructional materials and learning environments using a variety of systems approaches" (AECT, 2012)
Description of Artifact
The artifact chosen is a digital portfolio I created at the end of Dr. Misook Heo’s GILT 521 course: Digital Imagery for Teachers, taken during the fall 2018 semester. This portfolio was created to showcase all assignments that were completed during this course. We were required to choose any eBook creating software, app, or service as long as the product contained a table of contents, all of the assignment artifacts, and a description and reflection of each artifact.
Reflection and Rationale
At my school many teachers are hesitant to integrate technology into their classrooms as they fear the WIFI connection is always unreliable, causing them to spend more time fixing connection issues rather than teaching. Therefore, I chose to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create the ePortfolio as I wanted to create an example without having to use the internet. I was able to show the teachers and students the capabilities of PowerPoint and teach teachers how to create more engaging learning materials. The example shown on the right is a video of the ePortfolio. The original is an interactive slide show which a user can navigate on their own. Due to limitations of this website creation application, the interactive slide show could not be uploaded. Therefore, a video of the slide show was created and is shown on the right.
This ePortfolio contains examples of various types of learning materials I created during this course such as infographics, informational postcards, edited photos, stop-motion animation videos, interactive lessons, and a screen-casted lesson. I also practiced using various software and services such as Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop, and EdPuzzle. Therefore, I believe this artifact contains evidence of my proficiency in creating various learning materials and learning environments that can be used in my work, aligning with AECT’s Standard 1.1. I have already used my knowledge and skills from this course in my teaching to create engaging learning environments and teach my students how to use similar resources to create their own projects. For examples, I guided my students through creating a stop-animation video about the process of photosynthesis which helped them master the material. Below is one of the student created videos.
