Assessing/Evaluating
"Candidates apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance." (AECT, 2012)
Description of Artifact
During the spring 2019 semester I took Dr. Misook Heo’s GDIT 719: Learner-Computer Interactions course. In this course we were required to create a survey using the Qualtrics web-based application. The objective of this assignment was to practice creating online assessments of student learning. The survey we created could be on any topic of choosing with; at least two branches, a “force-response” question, grey color text questions with drop-down list, at least two page-breaks, and a progress bar. We had to manipulate the settings of the survey so that it could only take two responses, expire at a pre-determined time, and not allow people to save and continue the survey. On the right you will see the survey that was created. Please note that the settings; such as the quotas and expiration date, have been removed or altered so that readers of this ePortfolio can complete the survey.
Reflection and Rationale
This artifact is a survey I created using Qualtrics to assess student experiences during international student orientation. As the graduate assistant for the Center for Global Engagement at Duquesne, I plan our main orientation event at the beginning of the fall semester. The objective of the event to create a learning environment where the new international students can learn about the resources available to them at Duquesne and the various guidelines they need to be aware of. So, I decided to use this assignment to practice creating a post-orientation survey that would be sent out to students to assess whether our objectives of orientation were met. I was able to successful create and share this survey with the students after the fall 2019 orientation program. One of my favorite functions of this application is the ability to use logic to plan the flow of the survey. My supervisor at the office was impressed with the survey that I have helped the office build other surveys that are being used for recruitment purposes. I plan on continuing to use this tool to build assessments for both my work and more future research projects. I believe this artifact demonstrates my proficiency in Standard 5.3, which states that “candidates should apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance.”
