Description of Artifact
This plan for technology integration at the school I currently teach at was written for Dr. David Carbonara’s course GDIT 701: Professional Leadership in Technology, taken during the summer semester of 2018. The objective of this project was to create a plan for the integration of technology following the vision and mission of the school we chose. The document created for this project outlines the goals of the integration plan, the demographics of the school and its students, the critical issues addressed by the goals of the plan, and the budget involved with this plan.
Reflection and Rationale
In the data collection, analysis, and reporting section of this technology plan, I explain the various methods that will be used to assess whether the technology integration plan is being implemented properly and the goals of the plan are being achieved. Writing this section gave me the opportunity to think about the different ways I could evaluate the effectiveness of the integration plan as well as any technologies being used. It was during this time that I became aware of surveys that already exist that can be used to assess technology integration of teachers and students. Furthermore, I was able to use my knowledge of various services such as Qualtrics and Google Forms to make surveys for ones that did not already exist. Therefore, I believe this section of the artifact demonstrates my proficiency in AECT’s Standard 1.3 which states that candidates should have “the ability to assess and evaluate the effective integration of appropriate technologies and instructional materials.”
In this technology integration plan I describe several critical issues that the plan’s goals target. These include; communication processes, professional development of the administration and teachers, and equipment and purchasing required for successful integration of the technology plan. Furthermore, the strategic plan had to include a breakdown of the budget that would be required to purchase and maintain the technology resources and services. Hence, I chose this artifact to demonstrate my proficiency in Standard 1.4 as well. According to AECT (2012), Standard 1.4 states that “candidates [should have the] ability to effectively manage people, processes, physical infrastructures, and financial resources to achieve predetermined goals.” I believe that the knowledge and skills I gained from creating this artifact has helped me become proficient in standard 1.4 as well. In the summer of 2019, I worked with my school’s administration to purchase student computers that are being used exclusively in the science lab for technology enhanced lab activities. I continue to work on re-designing the curricula for the high school science labs as we now have the technology infrastructure to support it.
