Standard 2.4 - Managing
"Candidates manage appropriate technological processes and resources to provide supportive learning communities, create flexible and diverse learning environments, and develop and demonstrate appropriate content pedagogy." (AECT, 2012)
Description of Artifact
During my first semester of this program, in the summer of 2017, I took Dr. Misook Heo’s GDIT 703: Foundations of Instructional Technology, course. Two artifacts from this course are being used to demonstrate proficiency in Standard 2.5. The first is a blended lesson created using the Tes blendspace website. The objective of the lesson was to create a learning environment in which students learned about ebooks and how to create them. Then we were required to write a rationale statement (shown below) describing why we chose the resources we did, where we found them, and how it supported diverse learner characteristics. The second artifact is an interactive video lesson about meiosis: a type of cell division, made using EdPuzzle. The objective of this assignment was to locate an already existing video about meiosis and then edit it to add audio notes, images, and assessment activities. Once the video was created a rationale statement (shown below) was written describing the target audience, and the expected learning outcomes.
Reflection and Rationale
Both these assignments gave me the opportunity to practice using each resource and reflect on its usability in my classrooms. I found that EdPuzzle was more appropriate for my work as a high school science teacher. This academic year I am using the flipped classroom model to teach my 11th grade physics students. So, I use EdPuzzle to create interactive lessons which are used as the pre-class learning resources completed outside of our face-to-face class. Even though I have chosen not to use Blendspace in my classroom, I believe that these two artifacts demonstrate my knowledge and skills in selecting and using “appropriate technological processes and resources to provide supportive learning communities, create flexible and diverse learning environments, and develop and demonstrate appropriate content pedagogy.” Thereby, showing my proficiency in AECT’s Standard 2.4.
